Today, I want to talk about stigma, as it is the top most topic of discussion these days. So let’s start with the basic introduction of stigma.
Stigma can bedefined as a mark of shame, disgrace or disapproval which results in an individual being rejected, discriminated and excluded from participating in a number of different areas of society.
Whenever someone talk about mental illness, stigma is always related to it or you can say one who talk about mental illness always relate it to stigma…..
But in our culture stigma usually perceive as to talk about their illness as much as they can and to every person they met….. Is it really helping them in cure???? Or helping them to cope with their problematic situation????
Now in my observation (it can be different in others opinion) generally, when people talk about their problem to irrelevant people or to those who are not your well wishers,the problem multiplies(rather than being solved) for example if a woman A talk to her not so good friend B about the bad behavior of her in laws and depression in result of that. And lets say miss B talk about her problem infornt of mutual friend of husband of miss A.. it can worsen the situation and obviously worsen the depression of miss A too.
As it is usually said
‘’EVERYBODY IS NOT YOUR FRIEND SO CHOOSE YOUR FRIEND WISELY”. And if you feel you have not a single close friend than TURN TO ALLAH AND TALK TO HIM, HE IS THE BEST LISTENER.
What if you are having some cardiac issues, you are going to visit a cardiologist. If you are diabetic or having thyroid problem you are going to consult an endocrinologist for sure. Likewise if you are facing problem in dealing with certain problematic behavior of your family member or your own self, you better consult a psychologist or psychiatrist. The one who is trained to help you out from that difficult situation…..
It’s important to take care of our mental health as we are taking care of our physical health.
